The goal of cheek prosthesis surgery is to increase the volume and lift of the cheeks. For some women and even men, the loss of cheeks and sagging of this part of the face with age is very annoying. By using cheek surgery, the surgeon places prostheses in the cheeks and makes them bulky in a natural way.
Some prostheses are made of silicone and can be removed after a while. But some of them are made of composite materials. These materials are combined with the natural bone tissue and become a part of the cheek tissue. Doctors usually use medical silicone prostheses for facial surgery. The safety of this method is high and they can be removed if desired. In addition to prosthetics, there are other ways to highlight the cheeks. Methods such as fat injection or gel injection help to enlarge the cheeks.
Types of cheek augmentation
As we said, there are two other methods in addition to the prosthetic procedure to enlarge and highlight the cheek. The plastic surgeon suggests one of the methods according to the expectations of the person and the type of facial anatomy. These three methods are performed as follows.
Filler injection: The simplest and most non-invasive way to enlarge the cheek is filler injection. A thin tube called a cannula is used to inject the gel. Usually, about one milliliter of gel is injected in the middle of the cheek using a cannula. The injection site is exactly above the cheek bone. There are fewer blood vessels in this area and the possibility of bruising is reduced. Filler injection usually takes about 15 minutes. Anesthetic cream is used before that. The shelf life of the gel is usually 6 months to a year.
Fat injection: One of the best ways to enlarge the cheek is fat injection. Fat is removed from a person's thigh or abdomen and injected into the middle of the cheek using a microcannula. This procedure takes about an hour. Before that, anesthesia is used. Since the fat is taken from the person's own body, it lasts longer.
Cheek prosthesis: Prostheses are placed in the cheeks during surgery through an incision in the mouth or lower eyelid. The time of this operation is between 1 and 2 hours. The operation is performed under local anesthesia or anesthesia.
Types of cheek prosthesis models
Cheek prostheses have different models and can be placed in different positions. During the last decade, significant improvements have been made in the shape and placement of prostheses. Prostheses can be prefabricated or custom designed to match facial anatomy.
The surgeon suggests the best model of cheek prosthesis according to the ossification and size of the patient's cheeks. Be sure to ask your doctor about this during the consultation session. Experienced surgeons choose the prosthesis according to the anatomy of the patient's face and provide the best result.
Malar Cheek Prosthesis: These types of prostheses are placed exactly on the cheek bone. With this method, the cheeks are seen more clearly and the face becomes younger.
Submalar cheek prosthesis: these types of prostheses are placed under the cheek. They create volume in the cheeks and lift the face. With increasing age, a depression is created in the cheeks. This type of prosthesis reduces depressions.
Combined Cheek Prosthesis: As the name suggests, it is created from the combination of two prosthetic models and highlights both species and subspecies.
