types of nose surgery
What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, also known as rhinoplasty, is a surgery to change the shape of the nose. It can be done to improve the appearance of the nose, correct breathing problems, or both.
This operation is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes about 2-3 hours. There are two main types of rhinoplasty:
Closed rhinoplasty
open nose surgery
In closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made inside the nostrils, so the scar is not visible.
In open rhinoplasty, an incision is made on the base of the nose. This gives the surgeon more access to the underlying bone and cartilage, but also leaves a small scar that is usually hidden by the nostrils.
After nose surgery, you should use a splint on your nose for a few days. You will also experience some swelling and bruising, which will go away over time. Most people can return to work or school within a week or two after surgery.
Types of nose surgery
Rhinoplasty (technically called rhinoplasty) is performed in order to change its shape or improve the function of the nose. The most important goals of nose surgery are:
Removing the hump on the nose
Straighten the bridge of the nose
Changing the shape of the tip of the nose
Increase or decrease the size of the nostrils
Nose correction after injury
Opening the airways
Make the nose bigger or smaller
Rhinoplasty can be done to change your appearance for cosmetic reasons or for medical reasons. For example, some people may need surgery to repair a cartilage problem that separates one nostril from the other. Others may just want to make their nose smaller or change its shape.
At the beginning of the popularity of rhinoplasty, all surgeons used the same technique to fix the defects of the patient's nose. But after a few years passed and the experience of doctors increased, the techniques related to this operation became more advanced. Currently, in terms of style and method, this surgery can be divided into two categories. In the following, we will describe these two methods with complete explanations.
open rhinoplasty
Traditional rhinoplasty, also known as open rhinoplasty, is the most common method to permanently remove a humpback. This surgery requires general anesthesia during which the plastic surgeon makes a small incision that gives him a full view of the bone and cartilage under your skin. Your surgeon will then shave and reshape your nose, which may include breaking and realigning the nasal bones to improve its shape. After open rhinoplasty, your nose will be covered with a splint or cast for a week. Overall recovery takes up to 3 weeks on average.
